A 5-wall Gaylord box is a 5-layer corrugated bulk container built from three flat kraft liners alternating with two fluted corrugated mediums (BC double-wall construction). The extra wall count roughly doubles burst strength versus tri-wall, allowing up to 3,000 lb static load on a 48 × 40 in GMA pallet footprint with a 32+ ECT rating per TAPPI T 811.

How is a 5-wall Gaylord different from a tri-wall?
A tri-wall has three paper layers; a 5-wall has five. The extra layers roughly double burst strength and let the box reliably hold 3,000 lb vs ~1,500 lb for tri-wall. 5-wall is the standard for heavy-duty industrial bulk shipping; tri-wall is lighter-duty and cheaper.
