What is a 5-wall Gaylord box?

A 5-wall Gaylord box is a 5-layer corrugated bulk container built from three flat kraft liners alternating with two fluted corrugated mediums (BC double-wall construction). The extra wall count roughly doubles burst strength versus tri-wall, allowing up to 3,000 lb static load on a 48 × 40 in GMA pallet footprint with a 32+ ECT rating per TAPPI T 811.

They're used to ship automotive parts, foundry castings, recycled fiber, plastic regrind, bulk food ingredients (with FDA-compliant 21 CFR 177.1520 PE liners), and other dense industrial loads on pallets. See the full specifications page for ECT, burst, ISTA, ASTM, and FEFCO references.

Common questions

What is a 5-wall Gaylord box?
A 5-wall Gaylord box is a 5-layer corrugated bulk container — three flat kraft liners alternating with two fluted corrugated mediums (BC double-wall). Rated to 3,000 lb static load with 32+ ECT (TAPPI T 811) and ~600 psi Mullen burst (TAPPI T 810) on a 48 × 40 in GMA pallet footprint.
How is a 5-wall Gaylord different from a tri-wall?
A tri-wall has three paper layers; a 5-wall has five. The extra layers roughly double burst strength and let the box reliably hold 3,000 lb vs ~1,500 lb for tri-wall. 5-wall is the standard for heavy-duty industrial bulk shipping; tri-wall is lighter-duty and cheaper.
What sizes are in stock?
Eight standard heights on the 48 × 40 in GMA pallet footprint: 24, 28, 30, 36, 40, 42, 45, and 48 inches. Volumes range from 26.7 ft³ to 53.3 ft³. Custom dimensions are available on quote. See the sizes page for per-height detail.
What's the difference between new, used, and scrap?
New = virgin-kraft, factory-fresh, full structural rating. Used = inspected boxes from prior service, 40-70% savings, structurally sound. Scrap = end-of-life fiber sold to paper mills for recovery (not for shipping). Compare all three.
